June Happenings

Dear Reader,

For a few months I’ve tried having a TBR but the last couple months have been major failures. Doesn’t work with my Goldfish-like attention span. And I don’t want to apologize for not reading certain books, so I’m doing away with a list.

In these ‘Happenings’ I’m just going to highlight a book or two that I’m excited to read in the upcoming month.

I also want to use this monthly re-cap as a place to announce my ‘Classic Club’ read of the month.

What’s that, you might be asking? (Or not, I’m answering either way)

I decided to go back to my roots and read more classics. While I love trying to keep up to date with current books, I want to make sure I’m not overlooking the ‘good stuff’.

Starting this month I’m joining Classics Club, a blog I found that challenges other book bloggers to read at least fifty classics within five years. Once we complete a novel on our list, we link it back to the main site so the discussion can begin!

I decided to keep with fifty but plan on completing in four years, which is about a book a month (two months will be double booked – pun intended).

For the month of June I’ll be reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.

My list is mainly American and European, but I want to experience classics from other cultures too. Heck, I don’t think I’ve even read literature from Africa, which is a shame.

I’ll be shooting to have my review of Things Fall Apart out mid-month.

Hope everyone has a great start to their summer!

  1. I like that you’re reading a classic per month! I’ve never read Things Fall Apart. I hope you enjoy it. 🙂 Cheers!

  2. Hooray for the Classics Club! I’ve really enjoyed having a list and a reasonable deadline to aim for. I’m interested in seeing what you think of Things Fall Apart.
