August Happenings and Wrap Ups

July Wrap Up

I hope everyone’s summer is going well and that you are reading fantastic books!

So far my summer reading has been rocking and I can’t believe how many amazing books I’ve read in the past few weeks. There is a possibility I might have lost my edge, because I’ve been giving out high scores like Oprah for the past few reviews, but I think I’ve just been lucky in my picks.

To be honest, after my slump in the spring I’ve been very selective this summer. The majority of these books have found a place in my heart (and my bookshelf!) and don’t have to fear a trip to goodwill.

I finished and reviewed the following books in July:

Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer     10/10

Emma by Jane Austen     8/10

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch     9/10

Saga: Volumes 1 & 2     9/10 and 8/10

Classics Club

August’s pick is Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut

Not sure why, but this book has always intimidated me. I decided after Emma I wanted to try a classic that would challenge me, and I have a feeling that this book will do just that.

Bout of Books Readathon

This month I plan on participating in my first readathon, and I have no clue how this is going to go. My plan is the Thursday after the readathon is complete, I’ll give a quick run-down of the books I read and what I thought.

Below is a blurb from the official site that summarizes what the B.O.B. readathon is about:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever timezone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

This time around I’m not giving myself strict reading goals. I’m just going to read as much as I can and see where it takes me. I will be posting a TTT that week, but I’m not sure if I’ll be posting any reviews on the 25th.

Have a great August and we shall see what the month brings!
