December Happenings and Wrap Up

Wrap Up

Ugh, this was a rough month for reading, but thankfully I went out on a high note. I’m also in the middle of two strong contenders right now, so it’s looking good for December.

Looking at these scores I feel like I might have been slightly harsh on Wodehouse. It just took me over a hundred pages to really get into The Code of the Woosters, so it’s hard to justify a better score in my mind.

On the other hand I think I was too kind to Heartless. The only reason why the book got five stars from me was the ending. If not for that, Heartless easily would have been either two or three stars.

The Code of the Woosters – P.G. Wodehouse     6/10

Heartless – Marissa Meyer     5/10

The Underground Railroad – Colson Whitehead     9/10

This month’s pick is The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

I haven’t gotten a good Sci-fi read since the summer and been craving one after Dark Matter. Fahrenheit 451 is an all time favorite and I can’t wait to dive into more Bradbury’s works.

(For those who noticed a missing November review, the Norwegian Wood review will also come out in December.)

Time to get real…

As we come up on the end of the year (and also passing the one year anniversary of the blog), I’ve been trying to focus on what I want the blog to be in 2017. I’m still thinking, but I did want to discuss one thought that hit me yesterday.

I have the most wonderful intentions and will make plans forgetting the real limitations I have on my schedule. My lil’ creature and the Hubs need me (and vice versa), and I need to be more mindful of that.

Over the past few months I’ve said I’ll post this or review that, and it won’t happen.

My major goal for 2017 is to come up with a consistent post schedule. One that I can keep to, and unless there’s a holiday, there will be content out on those days.

At the end of the year I’ll be doing a huge ‘Wrap Up’ post, going over some of my favorite reads this past year. I’ll also go into more details about the future of Dear Reader.

Happy Reading!

  1. I had a rough reading month too. The Martian Chronicles is wonderful, I hope you enjoy it! I worked on planning posts this year, I didn’t always stick to it but found that laying out a plan at the beginning of each month was helpful – it helped me to pick and choose more which reviews I posted, and it also let me plan ahead for things like Top Tens and monthly wrap-ups.

  2. A consistent schedule is a good goal to have, I struggle with consistently posting too and I’m also trying to get better at it. Your comment about Heartless is worrying me, I’m so excited to read it and I really want it to be good.

    1. Schedule consistency has always been a struggle for me, so I’m hoping I can come to a comfortable place in 2017.
If you love Meyer’s other works you still might want to give it a try (maybe a library read). I just wasn’t impressed.
