BOB 20 Recap: Day One

And so it begins…

Well, this was not a good start to the week. Woke up sick, and then had a rough time getting into my first book. I’ve been slowly drifting away from YA Dystopia because I felt like I was reading the same book over and over. An Ember in the Ashes is the only series I’ve been invested in, and mainly on the strength of its characters.

Many of the people I know and run across have raved about Red Rising, but due to the reasons above I’ve been pushing the book off for a while now. I was very excited to finally dive right in but… Yeah… I had to DNF Red Rising.

Okay, okay… I’ll go into details with my end of week recap, but I was just bored… oh no…. NOT THE NOODLES!

Let’s move on to the challenge before the pitchforks and torches come out…

Day 1 Challenge: “Introduce Yourself #insixwords”

“The challenge is simple: introduce yourself on Twitter, Instagram, or on this post using six words, no more, no less.”

Today’s challenge is actually the same as the first one from the last BOB. For BOB 19 I went with “sweet and sassy, classics reading Momma”. I like that one so much (and still applies!) I had a hard time coming up with a new one. I’m taking an unique route and this year…

“Transplant Southerner who Hates the Heat”

  1. Red Rising: 382 pgs (DNF @ 120 pgs)
  2. The Rest of Us Just Live Here: 200 pgs
  3. Serena: 371 pgs
  4. The Book Thief: 550 pgs
  5. Reincarnation Blues: 371 pgs

Total: 120/1,612

  1. I actually have the same problem with YA in general. It’s a lot of the same things over and over again. Dystopian worlds, love triangles, instalove, etc. I do enjoy a goo YA novel from time to time, but I really like to see new themes being explored in the genre. I hope you do enjoy the other books in your TBR!

    1. Thankfully today is going much better! For both health and reading.
I try my best to switch up genres, but I think this is one I’m going to have to take a really long break from after Ember finishes.

  2. Good luck on meeting your reading goals this week!! I am participating on BOB 20 too and had a pretty go of things yesterday.

I also participated in the describe yourself in 6 words challenge yesterday as well too… I described myself as: Avid reader, blogger, knitter, wife, daughter!

    Happy reading!
