A Quick Update: What’s Going On

Over the past two months I haven’t been writing that much. Part of this is due to only reading a handful of books, and those books not inspiring much in me to write. I know that I’m experiencing writer’s block, probably due to burn out.

I promised myself that if this became a chore that I would take a step back. I know I don’t want to completely throw in the towel, but I also know that I need to make some changes to inject some life back into my reading/writing.

One thing that really set me back this past year was obsessing over new books and ARCs. While some ended up being solid, most were mediocre or a slog to get through, and would end up killing my momentum. Especially with ARCs from Netgalley, where I felt so much pressure to read/review.

For 2018, I want to concentrate on going through my backlog on my bookshelves and challenges (i.e. Classics Club, which needs some serious love right now). Over the next couple of months, while I’m wrapping up my reading for the year, I’ll be talking about the challenges I want to start next year. (This makes me excited <3)

Thank you,

Tasheena Rose

While I was writing this post, another blog I follow posted something very similar, expressing feelings that I’ve also been feeling. I noticed that a few book bloggers have been going through a rough patch this fall.

Is this just common this time of year or is this year, with everything going on in the world, just been more draining than usual?

    1. Yeah, even books I’m only kinda interested in, I’m having a hard time getting into.
I think once I get through this last batch I’ll just keep NetGalley to request books I’m 100% excited for. Like ‘The Girl in the Tower’, that’s one ARC I have that I can’t wait to get to.

  1. I’ve had this feeling at times too, especially re ARCs and new books. Now I’m quite ruthless – if I’m not enjoying a book I stop reading. It’s not a problem with Netgalley – I just give feedback with a couple of lines on why I won’t be reviewing.
